Harvest Is Plenty Laborers Are Few – Leading Others To Christ No Matter The Cost
36 When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepard. 37 Then He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:36-38
The harvest, or souls to be gathered in, is plenty. The multitudes that followed Jesus, expressed a desire of receiving his instructions, which gave him reason for making this statement.
Jesus knew that his people needed help. He visited not only the great and wealthy cities, but the poor, obscure villages also. There he preached and healed many.
There were priests, Levites, and scribes, all over the land; but they were like idol shepards who didn’t accomplish much. Christ had compassion on the people, as sheep scattered without a Shepard or as people perishing for lack of knowledge.
Lost sheep need Shepards
Today there are vast amounts of people who are sheep without a Shepard. Seemingly lost in the wilderness and lack knowledge of God’s love, peace, hope and saving grace. Therefore, without help they will soon perish. Thankfully, there’s good news!
In this four-week study, we will look at four laborers, Moses, David, Ruth and Paul chosen by God to provide leadership for his people. Laborers used in his ultimate plan to lead the harvest to Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior. Thank God that Christ is the Lord of the harvest!
Let’s use their examples in our own lives to go forth and labor for the Lord and lead his lost sheep to him. We are all called to go forth into the world and proclaim the good news that Jesus is Lord!
“And he said to them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel…” Mark 16:15
